Gong hei gong hei

January 24, 2009

It’s a Friday… and I’m finally back in the office after two weeks of being away for training and a short trip to the cat city. Everybody knows today is gonna be a super lazy day and my colleagues and I kicked off the morning having McD’s breakfast in Subang catching up over office affairs within the last week.

Knowing its the last day of work before you set out on an official “out of office” note simply means you gotto clear up your debts and work before you can go on a peaceful holiday! But somehow lunch time flew in within a blink of an eye. We set out for an awesome lunch in a seafood restaurant, which is very hidden within the SS2 housing area.

It’s time of the year again for lou sang, feast to cookies and mandarin oranges. I don’t usually lou sang before CNY, what more with a bunch of people other than my family. It’s a good first time with my colleagues and bosses and we had fun doing it, wish I could upload the video cos it’s damn funny but my connection’s lousy. Also had an awful lot of mandarin oranges the last two days, even the restaurant I had dinner in gave me one.

Anyways, about a week ago we were rewarded with an ang pau which i redeemed only today. Told myself this year is the year to do some real savings. Let’s see how it go about starting this month where we get additional pocket money, haha.

Here’s to wishing everyone prosperity, good health and wealth in this Chinese New Year! May the spirit of Ox be with all of us. Gong Hei Fatt Choi : )

Aeroplane ear

January 20, 2009
[Small talk: Am tuned to CNN to catch the inauguration of Barrack Obama as I am writing this. Feels great to be part of it although we're thousands of miles away from the States]

I got up pretty early today before my alarm made her usual stinging melody like every other morning. Hit the shower, checked my luggage and quickly hurried my ass so not to miss my 10am flight.

Caught my usual morning stuffy nose (disgusting I know) along the 45 mins drive to the airport. Met my colleague, checked in and waited at the boarding gate. I was already feeling a lil uneasy with the sinus and my half-deafen ears. Boarded the flight and dozed off before the plane took off to kill off the discomfort.

As soon as the plane took off to a certain altitude, I began hearing small crackling sound which distracted me. Little did I know they came from my very ears. “Niceeee, they are popping away just like the pop candy!” And I was actually enjoying how they subsided off slowly with no pain at all. Shortly after that, breakfast was served. Wacked a good nasi lemak with a miniature bottle of blueberry yogurt and a cuppa hot tea to drain my sinus.

Plugged in my ipod, began reading the in-flight magazine and dozed off within seconds. The next thing I know, the plane was already descending because I now hear a fiery and screeching sound from within my ears up to my brains. It was very suffocating as though someone was poking my eardrums. I knew I had to quickly try to get rid of the pain, namely:

1. Forced my saliva down my throat
2. Tried to yawn real hard but failed
3. Pinched my nostrils with a closed mouth and blew air real with my nose (Mr Bean’s method) but it was damn painful everytime I tried so
4. Can’t reach my ointment in my bag at the overhead compartment!
5. Had no candy or gum to chew!

They didn’t work, they freaking didn’t work at all. I had this crazy thoughts of murdering Mr Bean! Hahha.. Having said that, my eardrums were vibrating like a vibrator especially when the plane hits turbulence and all I could hear were muffling sounds surrounding me. Now ladies and gentlemen, that’s the killer aeroplane ear syndrome which I suffered for nearly 20 painful minutes.

I have never felt so relieved getting off a plane as much as I did this morning. Thank God it landed and guess what, Kuching was raining cats and dogs. There you go… the attack of flu is back.

DAMN, I HATE FEELING WEAK!!!

I was bumming in the office the whole day with a pair of swollen eardrums with stuffed nostrils sipping to my favourite honey green tea from the coffee dispenser, with multiple and multiple refills.

Nokia 5800XPM Launch

January 20, 2009

Just finished watching The Disaster Movie. Turned out to be a real disaster though..  Anyway about two weeks back, I attended the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music Launch held in Pavilion KL. To be precise, it was on the 9th of January.

Both Jason & Wilson have been telling me about the launch that I must not miss it. These two chaps are really true symbian lovers. To be honest, I have actually seen, touched and played with the unreleased unit of 5800XPM whom belonged to Henry the last time during the Ovi Sharing session in iZZi Damansara. Think I have forgotten to blog about that, pardon me.

Anyways, the launch was made to public and it was held at the foyer of Pavilion KL. Nokia set up an amazingly huge stage in the middle the main entrance which of course drew gallons and gallons of crowd made up of mostly shoppers, curious passerbys and of course avid Nokia fan who were anticipatingly waiting for the official launch of 5800XPM in Malaysia. The event started off with a massive big bang from behind the curtains which showcased an awesome street music concept just like The Stomp by a buncha Singaporeans.

Mr Vlasta Berka, the GM of Nokia Malaysia gave an interesting speech after the brief intro from the street performers. I was amused the fact he climbed up to the top of the stage to give his talk and ultimately launch the release of the 5800XPM in Malaysia. During and after his speech, I could dozens of people holding a 5800 XPM. Some are brand new in the box, some are already parading it while the rest are in the midst of purchasing it.

Another cool performance by these rappers are, whom are also from Singapore if I remember correctly. Again if you asked, what happened to the Malaysians? I don’t know either cos I thought our music industry is doing good. But apart from that this duo really reminds me of Too Phat, and really I’d say they’re pretty good.

Vlasta stopped by the La Bodega to meet and greet with us after their official media press, caught a pic of him and Jason – thumbs up to the first Nokia touchscreen phone!

The food served were rather scrumptious, especially this Seafood Platter – I had no idea what’s the name of the dish though. There were also various small bites like chicken wings, onion rings, sauteed mushrooms etc with free flow of drinks.

A group picture taken of everyone with a Nokia 5800, except for that poor lost chap at the right end who had to keep his hands safely in the pockets and parade his wide smile. : )

[L-R: Glen, Adrian, Jason and Wilson]

I managed to catch up with Glen again, after the last encounter in iZZi. He’s a really really nice low profile guy but little did we know he is actually the Product Manager of Nokia. Also there were Wilson and Adrian whom I got to know earlier from Jason and we were all hanging out having our little geek chat about gadgets and of course the 5800XPM! Haha… To be honest, after the launch I was really tempted to buy the phone even until today. But I had no excuse to get rid of my 7-months N95 8GB which I purchased at a painful price of RM2k. I’ll keep out an eye for it one day, one day!

Lastly, thanks to Smashpop and Eevon from Text100 who called me up. That’s bout it, I gotto pack my bag and go to bed. Flying off to Kuching tmr, till then.

Starbucks wtf.

January 19, 2009

Am I crazy or what? I am actually suffering from a bad flu (been 2 dreadful days) and I should be sleeping by now because I have to work tomorrow, well not working technically because I’ll be having a training workshop but nonetheless I still gotto wake up early and guess what I am doing now?

Yes, you’re damn right. Reviving my dead BLOG! hahaha (Okay, I’m just laughing by myself :P )

Just a couple of hours ago, I was sipping to my fav Machiatto and accompanying Elaine who was waiting for her sis’s late return flight from Bangkok. I was listening to my ipod with a half-deafen right ear (due to obviously, flu) while she terrorized my laptop to surf her facebook.

18012009796

Here’s the interesting part and the whole reason I wanted to blog about. It took me so blardy long to connect to the wireless access point in Starbucks Centre Point and this page turned out after I was forced to watch a 30 seconds stupid video.

I cried out to Elaine, “Damn, looks like engineers are not meant to drink in Starbucks”.

0_O Puzzled and she asked why?

Cos there’s occupation category for Student, Executive, Manager, Management, Enterpreneur and NA. OMG I can’t choose and relate which I belonged to!

After that an even funnier category came up, notice “Income” right below “Occupation”. The LOWEST income was…..

< RM 18, 000

Heck, wtf! With that, I ended up hooking to the net using my DiGi EDGE broadband..No I’m serious.

Moral of the story, no money don’t try to drink in Starbucks! wahaha..
