Riding the real world

August 31, 2008

Obvious enough, I have not updated my barely-breathing blog for ages. Only the other day when I attended an event which I registered myself as a ‘blogger’ that I realize I’ve been a really really rusty one.

Too many times I’ve been very inspired to blog, but to my dismay I do not have a fcken broadband – long story but let’s just put that aside. Infact I have ample of photos and lotsa stories to write on the places I traveled to since the day I started working. It’s not much but Sarawak has certainly been a fantastic place to be – it’s beginning to look like my second home. All the series of fun with the job I’m attached to.

The awesome part about traveling is the scrumptious food and the new people you meet. Sarawak has a whole different culture within themselves which I admire about. The friendliness of the people albeit conversing a little differently from Peninsula has been absolutely warm. My newly met colleagues are very nice that I clicked instantly the moment I met some of them. The other thing I really liked about is them bringing me to the famous eateries all over to try out the yummylicious food in town.

My job also revolves a little adventure every now and then. We have to venture into the deep and rural areas for some survey work. These outskirt places may sound boring to some but it could also be an opportunity to discover new places which I’ve not stepped foot in before. Most people here travel in their 4×4s because the trunk roads can be very bumpy as though you’re riding a horse. Some have to make do with either ferry or boat as their main transportation to get their destinations.

But of cos, there was also the ugly part which I did not tell you about yet. When I first started off, there was lotsa struggling to adapt to the job I had taken up. I made a drastic move to switch field from what I have initially graduated as thus I had to learn and absorb all the new terms which seemed so strange to me even after 5 years of university. Very often too, I encountered what you’d call a road-block and sometimes information overload. But I guess a rough start is always good to get me going.

But the good thing I really liked over here with the company I’m attached to is the cosy working environment and the fabulous colleagues. I’d say we all blended pretty well and they are often more than helpful to share and guide us through. Otherwise, plain reading of the materials and training sessions would be hell – I mean we just graduated from reading notes! Haha.

Anyways, let’s skip the boring part.

Not too long after, we had team building in Taman Negara which was an opportunity to get to know more new strangers in office. Team building was just average for the 3 of us because it wasn’t a very tough adventure and also probably because we just got back from conquering the mount Kinabalu, which was hell. Also, we were newbies therefore not too much of misbehaviour towards the newly met colleagues. He he.

Over the past 3 months I was attached to the company, we had numerous exciting in-house parties, with awesome free flow of beverage which certainly made everyone a happy kid. It’s true they say when you work hard, you gotto party hard. I’m not implying on hardcore parties but chilling out with both old and new friends towards the end of the week has been something I look forward to at most weekends.

Speaking of conquering the peak of Mount Kinabalu, I am glad all of us made it to the top of the world. The climb was absolutely challenging, both physically and mentally. The journey uphill was never easy but when the sun rose coupled with the gorgeous clouds and the blue skies – it was purely beautiful. The chilly rocks, the cold air and the most fun group of friends I had with me up the mountain. I could not have ask for more. The gush of joy when we made it to the summit of the mountain was beyond words..

6.56am, 31st May 2008 – A day we’ll always remember.

Fast forward a little bit, the arrival of graduation. The best part about it was meeting up with all the old friends, believe me nothing beats that. Some go way back during the foundation years of university and some whom I have not seen for over 4 years. We get to exchange short chats – about life, work, relationship etc. And of course, celebrating that very important day which everyone have waited impatiently throughout their university years – ala Convocation!

Hurrah, we’re official graduates!

Graduation reminded me of a lot of things – the endless and crazy sessions of DotA we had over the past years, the dim sum sessions every now and then just before the sun rises, the frequent movie outings, the mamak hang outs, the stupid little things we would do in campus everyday, the photography outings I had with these 2 buggers and everything else.

So here I am, back to reality. Work and work and learn to earn my own rice bowls for future. Haha

Also, Happy 51st Independence Day goes out to all Malaysians. Personally, I look forward to integration and development in our country. Stop all the raging politic bullshits and time to get real.

Peace and out!
